Unfortunately it does seem to be a little heavy on the computer resources. I run minecraft on a dual core AMD with two ATI crossfired 4800 video cards and 8 gigs of ram and it slows my machine performance a little. Sadly that's the pitfalls of making a big game in Java. I wish Notch knew how to program in something else.
I really recommend this mod because it brings a whole new dimension to the minecraft game and adds a lot of excellent and epic content.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You should always back up your files before you install a mod (I really mean it, I'm not just covering my you know what). I recommend making a copy of your entire minecraft folder with saved games and all; just to be safe. This is a big mod and can be unpredictable.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wrote this guide because I couldn't find any clear instructions and even found a few hijacks! In the millenaire0.4.zip file are the best instructions but some people actually said not to follow them!?! But how do you get to the instructions if you can't even find the mod!?!
Yeah, so anyway, after a lot of searching and head scratching, this worked for me:
Installation How To: ModLoader
You'll need to download and install ModLoader Beta 1.7.3 (More info)
Once you have the ModLoader.zip file just open it with 7zip (don't extract);
Then open C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin\minecraft.jar with 7zip (don't extract);
Drag the contents of ModLoader to minecraft.jar
While minecraft.jar is still open delete the META-INF folder (if it's there).
That's it! ModLoader should be installed!
Installation How To: Millénaire 1.7.3
Make sure you have ModLoader Beta 1.5 01v3 already installed (see above).
Download: Millénaire 1.7.3 (More Info)
Open Millenaire.1.0.7.zip with 7zip (don't extract).
Navigate to C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft and open the minecraft folder
Now in 7zip double click on the folder "Put in minecraft folder" then drag and drop the Millenaire folder into the minecraft folder.
Next
Navigate to C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\mods and open the mods folder
Now in 7zip double click on the folder "Put in mods folder"" then drag and drop the millenaire.1.0.7.zip file into the mod folder.
That's it. It should be working!
To test your install start a new game and in the seed option type b. The mod should announce it is running and if you press the v button how far away the village is should be displayed.
In an existing game the mod won't start until you reach unexplored land.
I hope you give this mod a try.
Please remember that modding anything implies risk and I am not making any promises that you will not encounter a problem. I'm simply explaining what worked for me. If you have difficulty try getting a new minecraft.jar, make sure you followed the instructions exactly, make sure you have the most up to date version of the mod and minecraft and remember that mods often don't work well together - which is why you backed up - right? - you did back everything up didn't you?

hmmmmm... this mod seems awesome!!
ReplyDeleteYes awsome this bad idiot mod is for kids
DeleteGames aren't just for kids anymore.
DeleteIt sounds epic, but I doubt my laptop would have the resources to keep up with such a thing.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so cool! If only I had minecraft, I'd download this because I love NPC's that know what they are doing.
ReplyDeletelong but nice tutorial
ReplyDeleteI've tried it and it didn't work. Just gave me a blackscreen....
ReplyDeleteAre u sure u deleted the META-INF folder, because thats sometimes the cause
Delete> Mark
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad but it'll do that if you did something wrong or if you have a conflicting mod.
Maybe download the minecraft.jar and try again. Sometimes old .jar files can be a problem too.
Thanks for the guide, very helpful!
ReplyDeleteVery helpful, my 9 year old sister came to me the other day and asked me to install minecraft! I'll take the tips from this blog and explain them to her, thanks alot!
ReplyDeleteSorry to be anon, i dont have an account, but this is important to ask. On the last step, when you move the "Put in mods folder" in your pic the icon is different, the icon in mine is just a zip folder. What should i do?
ReplyDeleteunfortunately, this mod did not work with the MyCraft mod. after installing, i tried opening with mycraft, and it gave me the black screen. after opening it with "vanilla" minecraft it worked fine
ReplyDelete> Anonymous
ReplyDeleteJust put the zip file in the mod folder. Don't extract it. Minecraft will open the file.
> Boisvert
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip!
I know it can help to start with a whole new fresh minecraft.jar file.
I expect ModLoader and MyCraft were conflicting. It could be your other mods will work under ModLoader.
I'm glad you got it going.
I just discovered two villages right beside each other. I'm interested to see if they start stealing resources from each other.
After doing a digging around, I think I found the cause for the mycraft/millenaire incongruence...they both use the "v" key for commands...mycraft uses it to turn flying on, I looked for a workaround...but alas I couldn't find one. Vanilla minecraft works with all my mods(millenaire, buildcraft, single player commands...) so no more mycraft for a while...oh well I know when to stop using a lesser mod
ReplyDeleteIt didnt work!
ReplyDeletei did everything you said!
someone gimme a hand here?
> Anonymous
ReplyDeleteIf you did everything right then I'd recommend using a new minecraft.jar file.
Be sure to download millenaire again so you have the most up to date version.
i have just found and followed your tutorial andas this is my first mod it cant be that its conflicting im using everything that your using in your screenshots but always ends up with a black screen upon login and dont know what the problem is
ReplyDeletesorry for double post but meant to say i have on every attempt deleted my whole .minecraft folder so as to start fresh instead of just re pasting all the files
ReplyDelete>Hawki
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you're not deleting the META-INF folder in the Minecraft.jar after installing MODLoader.
Hey, it turns out that i dont have a mods folder :( what do i do?
ReplyDeleteokay turns out that i have deleted the META-INF but i still get a black screen :(
ReplyDeletesame. i did everything proplerly but after the MOJANG page i got black screen. I went out for half an hour and it stil was black. i redownloaded it like 17 times and same result. tried shutting down then restarting and it just resulted in me doing another 17 downloadeds. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Delete>Anonymous
ReplyDeleteMake sure you have the latest version of minecraft. If you do then make a mod folder.
>Anonymous
I'm not sure what to say except make sure everything is up to date. Try visiting the (more info) links. The developers go into way more detail than I do.
I've re installed this mod half a dozen times yesterday (I was testing mods) without any problems.
i dont have a mod file please help
ReplyDeletehi at my pc it dont work i had createt a new world but there isnt a village
ReplyDelete> Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThe folder is called "mods" and it is in C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\mods
> Anonymous
Make sure you have the proper version of ModLoader and Millenaire for your minecraft version.
is there an english mod?
ReplyDelete> ashcresswell
ReplyDeleteNot that I know of but you can rename all the towns and what the people say into whatever language you like.
Go to:
C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\millenaire
and check sentences.txt
The village names are in your saved game folder. I've never renamed them but was told it will work but I can't say for sure.
hi I dont have an acc so ill be anno, but i have to know if xie's farming mod works with millénaire, cause my bro like xie's mod but he also want millénaire but he get blackscreen, both minecraft and xie's mod and millénaire is up to date, so what is the problem?
ReplyDeletePlease help!
thanks on forehands, i appreciate(how to spell?)
> Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI don't see it listed
http://millenaire.wikia.com/wiki/Mod_Compatibility
i get a black screen to i did the tutor and i got all the latest please help me my nervs are breaking down :D
ReplyDelete> mike636
ReplyDeleteThat happens sometimes.
Mods are complicated and trouble can come from anything like the OS to Java etc,. there are just way too many variables for a tutorial to cover everything.
i also get a black screen, can anyone help? srry if this gets posted twice, i also deleted the one file
ReplyDeleteMake sure you have all the latest versions and that they are all compatible. Minecraft is now in 1.7.3 and 1.8 will be out soon. I put all the links you'll need to hunt down the right downloads.
ReplyDeleteThe trouble ppl seem to be having is that minecraft updates and then their mods are out of date and stop working or they try and install the wrong mod for their game version.
The tutorial will still work so long as you have the right files.
This mod will be obsolete soon anyway since villages and npc's will be part of the 1.8 minecraft due out soon.
my mod doesnt work. i get on the game doing what you did. i started a new one and there was no notification of a mod working or a town near by when i press v. but after i did this it did download files to the game so im confused.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds to me like minecraft updated.
ReplyDeleteMake sure you have the latest mod loader, millenaire and minecraft versions before you install.
Or that you have the right versions for the minecraft you are running. Beside the download links are the home page links for the mods, so you can find older versions if necessary.
I did it exactly like this but when i try to start up minecraft it instantly crashes. i have modloader instaled and i reinstaled the entire thing like three times and i always get the same resault. im using a windows xp, does anyone know how to fix this or should i just give up
ReplyDeleteMake sure the modloader and millenaire you're trying to install are compatible with each other and your version of minecraft.
ReplyDeleteI would start with a whole new minecraft install then try and install millenaire again. It could be something has become corrupted or maybe some older mod is conflicting. Delete your bin folder then run minecraft again and it'll download a new .jar file.
Make sure too you're deleting the META-INF folder.
If all that fails then sometimes having the JDK (Java Development Kit)installed on a machine helps. JDK has fixed a few mods for me and solved some memory issues too, so you might want to try it.
Done Everything above and cannot get it to work.
ReplyDeleteDeleted all the files and tried from scratch, installed JDK again, made sure meta-inf is deleted..
Cannot find what the hell is going wrong :(
I don't have a "mods" folder... Can someone please help me??? I like this mod alot but i don't have a 'mods' folder!!!
ReplyDeletehow do you back it up :(
ReplyDeleteIf you don't have a mods folder then make one. Right click your screen and select make new folder, then name it "mods."
ReplyDeleteTo back up just select the folder you want to back up, then select "copy" then paste it. You'll have a new folder with a -copy appended to it.
ReplyDelete>Done Everything above and cannot get it to work.
ReplyDeleteDeleted all the files and tried from scratch, installed JDK again, made sure meta-inf is deleted..
Cannot find what the hell is going wrong :( <
I really don't know your system but I'd guess some little step is being left out. Computers only do what they're told.
But at the end of the day Minecraft is java and these things can happen. Java just isn't a good platform for games as large as Minecraft IMO.
Guys, I think I may have a solution!!! for all of you posting about black screens/minecraft crashing when you open it when using this mod.
ReplyDeleteAssuming you had the problem I had, do the following:
STEP 1. DO NOT OPEN MINECRAFT .JAR FOLDER AFTER INSTALLING MODLOADER!!!!!!!!
it is not necessary for this mod. yay!!!
STEP 2. If you did place millenaire into the minecraft .jar file, GET A NEW .JAR FILE!!!
STEP 3. Instead of placing the folder "millenaire" into the .jar file, PLACE IT IN THE .minecraft folder!!!
STEP 4. So, it should end up like this:
download modloader & install. download millenaire mod. place millenaire folder in .minecraft folder. place millenaire .zip folder into .minecraft/mods folder.
STEP 5. PLAY MINECRAFT!!!!!
this fixed it for mine, and should fix it for yours. YAY!!!!!! bump if necessary, feel free to ask questions
try to search for yogbox and it will install everything very nice!!
ReplyDeletegood luck!
i cant get it to work it doesnt load the mod when i start the game, what am i doing wrong?
ReplyDeleteIt seems as though I do not have a mod folder... In this case, where would I put the folder that would go there?
ReplyDeleteCreate the folder in: C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft
ReplyDeleteHi, I did everything here, I even deleted the META-INF folder just after i put in modloader, i have a mods folder, i put the folder in the "put in minecraft folder" in the minecraft folder and i put the folder in the folder that said "put in the mods folder" into the mods folder, i have no other mods and i started with a clean slate, i did a full search of my whole computer and deleted everything minecraft related, then reinstalled minecraft. I started up a new world and i was just playing regular minecraft, when i pressed V, nothing happened...Help?
ReplyDeleteBTW: I did all of the deleting stuff BEFORE i put the folders within folders into other folders.
> Jeffrey
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that bro. I don't know your machine or setup so it's impossible for me to know what could be wrong.
their should be a easy installer for this, or a minecraft.jar with mods already installed would be nice...
ReplyDeletesorry but can somone help
ReplyDeletemillenaire seems to work fine the "v" key works but there are no villages anywhere.
i am not running any other mods and i have modloader.
please help thanks
If the V key is working then you haven't travelled far enough to find a village; also, you can't find a village in an area that you've already explored. You need to explore areas you haven't been to yet.
ReplyDeletei keep getting no village within 2km ieven when i create a new map and i have tried it around the whole map.
ReplyDeleteSome mods can prevent the Millénaire mod from working.
ReplyDeleteAlso the Millénaire only works on single player.
i saw a yoggscast vi and had all the mods i had in addition to mill mod and it worked for them.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. I was thinking of the zeppelin mod.
ReplyDeletei did it exactly how you did it but i got a free version i doubt it would work would it ?
ReplyDeleteMaybe not but I don't see why it would make a difference just make sure you have the right version of Millénaire.
ReplyDeleteI can't figure it out, i click the link and it sends me to a site that has nothing to do with this
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure which link you mean but some will send you to add fly so the guys who made the mod will get something for their trouble, just wait a few seconds and click "skip add."
ReplyDeleteHELP!, What if my com. cant find minecraft.jar?
ReplyDeleteI have the Mill installed for my minecraft, and for some reason the signs on the buildings come up in another language, but im not too sure how to get them to where they are in english.... can someone help me with this please??
ReplyDeleteCan this mod be used on a server? I hope you say yes as I'm getting rather bored of just playing Minecraft Survival. :/
ReplyDeleteI found this exactly 5 Mins. after updating and REALLY want it. will it be updated?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it will be.
ReplyDeleteWhat mod folder i dont have one?
ReplyDeleteI did a double post by accident but i read the comments and i made a mod folder but when i play offline it says Minecraft has crashed...
ReplyDeleteWhat do i do!!!
what is 7zip
ReplyDeletesorry about the double post but i cant figure out how to open the file with 7zip because my commputer can't find it
ReplyDelete7Zip is a program for unzipping files and you have to install it on Internet Explorer.
DeleteWhen i start up minecraft everything is fine, there are no black screens but when I start a new world there is no start up message or anything! please help...
ReplyDeleteYou need to make sure you don't have any incompatible mods running, that you have a compatible version with your minecraft version. 99.9% of the time problems are from one of these issues.
DeleteI done this with a fresh 1.7.3, no other mods besides ModLoader and then Millenaire and I have the exact same problem as the above Anon
DeleteAny ideas?
hey I have listened to everything but my minecraft folder does not have mods on it what should I do
ReplyDeleteYou can make the folder.
DeleteSo the mod is working but the only people there are these creepy blacksmithes. I can't trade with them either, what do i do?
ReplyDeleteIf only this was easy as world of warcraft addons. i followed the instructions to the letter and i do not have the put in mods folder plz help.
ReplyDeleteJust make a new folder and name it mods.
DeleteFollowed every step but now luck... MC shuts down when I start it...
ReplyDeleteYou might need to increase the amount of ram available to Java.
Deletei dont get a black screen but mine gets stuck at the Mojang page. i have done everything in every tutorial i can find.
ReplyDeletePlease Help!!!
hhhhmmmmm it semms like a good mod i think:-)
ReplyDeleteI did everything correctly adn delete meta-inf but when i start minecraft it stays on mojang for like 10 seconds then says modloader crash
ReplyDeletemodloaded:1 and lot more what do i do?

ReplyDeleteI just want to know can you send me the mod loader because I have minecraft but I dont have minecraft jar file.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't have minecraft.jar you'll need to get it from Mojang.
Deleteawesome
ReplyDelete1: How do you back up files
ReplyDelete2: i dont have those files. how do i find/make them?
Thanks
Go to: C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft and copy the files you need to back up.
DeleteI'm not sure which files you mean.
The icons dont work .They are all stuff like golden swords and icons from my other mods HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
ReplyDeleteMillénaire doesn't play nicely with other mods You might need to start with a new modless install.
Deletehow to test the mod if it installed succesfully ? i typed "b" and "v" but it didn't showed anything. i follow all your instruction. help
ReplyDeletei installed the mod loader properly and i deleted the META-INF, but when i install millenaire and run minecraft it gives a black screen, so what do i have to do to get it working??!!!!
ReplyDeleteIn my minecraft folder there is no mods folder what should i do?
ReplyDeleteCreate one.

ReplyDeleteany help?
when i install mod loader 1.7.3 my minecraft gets black screen is it because i have minecraft beta 1.2.5 because it doesn't work with my 1.2.5 mod loader
ReplyDeleteYou always have to use the right version for your install.
DeleteMinecraft should use other game development software than Java....
ReplyDelete100% agree with this.
ReplyDeletesorry for being anonymous, no accounts... ive spent the last 7 hours trying to install this mod... finally found this site, and while it is by far the best. however, i have followed every step exactly, and still cant get it to work.... please help!!
ReplyDeletefuck modding i cant get anything to work ohh downlload this mod(me)- ohh ok :D (computer_ surey must be completed (me IT COSTS MONEY!!! JUST DONT MOD PEOPLE IT WONT WORK LIFES BULLSHIT

ReplyDeletejustr do wehat i do build a hge villige yes itll tajke a long time but look at anonymous over here 7 hours wasted on trying to have villages build themselves well not gonna happen my friend i spend everyday filling my whole map with one huge ass villige check it out ill get my server address out another day when i have alot of maps filled but its fun try it
Modding is definitely a pain in the ass, I feel your pain bro. I'm running the latest Millénaire (for 1.3.1) and the last update wiped out all my villagers. I was a god - a legend among those people! Now they are all dead until I repair the mod. I have to repair it for I am their god and even if I can't hear their prayers I can see their dopey little faces; besides I can't stand the Squidward mobs.
DeleteI can't get the "millenaire4.1.2.zip" to drag to the minecraft folder. It just opens that in the window I had the minecraft folder open in.
ReplyDelete
